Sew & Tell: Olivia & Oliver Peacoat

January 7, 2014 by Heather Damron

Today we are featuring Tia from aLot of Attitude‘s dapper version of the Olivia & Oliver Peacoat! The Oliver & Olivia Peacoat is a classic pattern for girls and boys with lots of charming details (it’s fully lined!).

Take it away, Tia!

FabricĀ

The fabric for the outside is a suiting material that was given to me by my grandmother, she received it from my uncle who worked for a company that made and sold suits. The lining is a flannel that I purchased from a local Ace Hardware, yes that’s right, a hardware store! They have a flat fold fabric selection that is pretty amazing with great prices. I tried to search from what’s printed on the material, Geometric Cars, but nothing came up. Buttons are from Jo-Ann’s.

Thoughts on pattern

It’s a great pattern especially if you have both boys and girls. I made this one for my son but already have another one cut out for one of my daughters. I thought the instructions were clear and the coat came together very fast and easy. I’m a visual person so the pictures were helpful to me when putting the coat together. The one thing I will change next time is I feel like my button holes are a little too far in but there is no measurements for that in the pattern. I made my son’s a size up from what he is wearing in shirts just so that we could layer, there is room for him to move in this coat even when wearing layers. I can’t wait to make more!

Thanks, Tia! Your little guy is rocking the coat – and the lining is spectacular!
