This post reminded me of the days when we went to Olan Mills for kids photographs! NOTHING like this. Hahaha! But maybe they have started doing more lifestyle photography there too. I loved that you and Abby worked together on 'planning' the tea party for her stuffed animals/photo shoot!

Super advice :) I've had to learn the hard way too! Definitely going to try looking at my son while I shoot and see if that helps. I have plenty of neat photos of him staring off into space, but the ones with direct eye contact are so much more compelling--and so much harder to get :)

Also, if you have really little ones who don't engage in conversation yet, here's something that works approximately once per photo shoot: get all your settings adjusted for lighting, angles, aperture, etc. and then crow like a rooster really loud. :) Your child (unless he's used to hearing mom sound like a rooster!) will almost assuredly look straight at the camera, and often with a priceless expression :)

I'm glad you didn't share the technical stuff! Most of that stuff is hard to apply to kids anyway, in my experience. Thanks!

Good tips! She's a sweetheart, for sure. I find, too, that having kids playing and engaged helps to dispel what their grandmother calls, "making that silly face!"
